We need men

am all about women empowerment. Matter of fact, it is safe to say, I am a feminist. But, when it comes to gender equality, is the scale balance, or starting to tip over? To have a successful community, a successful nation, we need both women and men to succeed equally. We need men to succeed; we need them to marry and raise strong children; we need men as much as women if we are to rebuild the family. Given the daily attacks on manhood in our media and our culture, the odds of creating strong, good men are ever shrinking. Unless we give the same attention to our boys and young men that we give to their female counterparts, the situation will only grow worse. Without a determined effort to raise our sons with the same sense of hope and aspiration given our daughters, to let them know that masculinity is as positive a value as femininity, to teach them honor, courage, and virtue, we will see even fewer intact families, an ongoing sense of hopelessness and despair a

Be Strong and Give Your All

There is no need to conform to this world. Do you and be of a sound mind, knowing that there is consequences for all of your actions.  You have to reach deep inside yourself and see what your strength are, and what you can  contribute to society.  The more you try to be what you are not, the uncomfortable and exhausted you will become.

Personal Growth: I don't need to screw anyone over to get ahead

We’re all competitive people. But being competitive doesn’t mean that you have to screw over people around you. Have you heard of the Shine Theory? It basically means, ‘I don’t shine if you don’t shine.’  I'm all about helping everybody because I've realized a lot of people helped me along the way.

Personal Growth: My Struggles with Being Open Minded

Being open-minded can be really tough sometimes, trust me, I know. Most of us are brought up with a set of beliefs and values and, throughout our lives, tend to surround ourselves with people who share the same values and beliefs. Therefore, it can be difficult when we're faced with ideas that challenge our own and, though we may wish to be open-minded, we may struggle with the act of it from time to time.  I'd like to say I'm a fairly open-minded person, but, like most people, I do have some pretty strong views about specific topics and find it hard to sway from those opinions -- no matter how others might try to persuade me. Of course, I fully believe that having strong beliefs can be a wonderful thing and I believe we should all stay true to what we believe in, but having strong beliefs doesn't have to mean having a closed mind.  Though it can be tough to do sometimes, I've always found that when I open my mind, I've reaped a lot of rewarding

Admit It When You Are Wrong

My mother used to say, "If you are woman enough to do it, be woman enough to admit it." I've built a tolerance for admitting when I am wrong. It makes me proud to take responsibility for my wrong doing. The first is simply, "I was wrong." Many people are so concerned with being right that all their mental energy is consumed by stonewalling, bluffing, blaming and denying. If you’re wrong, admit it and get on to the solution or the next step. Try it, it works.

What do you know about Personal Power?

Personal power is supported by your contacts and money. Developing an ever-widening circle of contacts increases the number of open doors for you. Having people with like-minded goals and are willing to help you can directly affect how successful you are. Money in the bank provides freedom and the ability to take full advantage of certain opportunities when they present themselves. You know the saying, "Money is Power".

Berenice Mulubah: Defining Personal Growth

Personal growth is bettering yourself, stepping out of your comfort zone, focusing on becoming a better version of yourself. Humans and the human mind is constantly evolving and never stops. Your job is to always be a better version of yourself than you were yesterday.

Personal Growth: Develop Your Personal Skills

Berenice Mulubah at Revolt 2017 Music Conference Are you trying to grow your skills in the workplace? The highest paid, top individuals in their field are the ones that focus on growing their personal skills. These skills can be ones you were born with as well as skills gained through deliberate practice. Knowing what areas you good in and which areas need development are very important for your personal and professional life. Be Inspired .

Personal Growth: Defining "Personal Development"

Berenice Mulubah What is Personal Development? After studying just about everything that has been written or said about personal development and success, I have come to the conclusion that the root of both is your level of self-confidence. Self-confidence is the critical factor in everything you accomplish because, with the appropriate amount, you will try almost anything. Many people underachieve in their careers because they do not realize the areas of personal development that can help achieve mastery in any field. There is no substitute for hard work.  If you set a goal, make a plan, and work on it every day, you will see personal development and progress within your career. There are no limits except for the limits you place on yourself with your thinking. Commit yourself to lifelong learning. Even if you are at the top of your field, there is always something to learn. You will become unstoppable and you will see your entire future open up in front of you if you

Remembering Christmas in Liberia

Berenice Mulubah I wrote this poem in 2016 right around this time of the year. Remembering Christmas in Liberia  Mehn, the celebration there was serious, Pot boiling with jollof rice inside, The Kids dressed up, ready for a fun experience If you have Be prepared to give For every greeting ended with "my Christmas on you." Seeking Christmas trees None to be found But that old man beggar Surely did suffice Good old times Great old times Collecting dimes From my uncle Tilmon Christmas in Liberia What an experience The Fun, the laughter Distance relatives from the interior That's Christmas for you, in Liberia

I Have A Question For You, Yah

What did you do in the past seven days? What things did you learn? What life lessons did you draw from them?  What challenges did you face? One of the most effective techniques for putting your life on track is the weekly review. I usually take an hour or two on Sunday to carefully examine the preceding week and ask myself the above questions. Everything I did wrong in the past week I take steps to learn from so I won’t repeat those mistakes. I will also examine my successes looking to see what strengths I possess allowed me to make those small accomplishments. This weekly evaluation will allow you to have some clear insight into your progress or lack thereof. If you can’t find anything you’ve learned from the past week then it was wasted . When you take a look at your past week, looking at what you have learned and how you have improved yourself, you can really see how appropriately you are using your time. Just remember that this week has past. Don’t beat yourself up about

Why the Tortoise Story So Important

The more time you give yourself to complete a goal, the more likely you’ll achieve it. With any goal under 1-2 years, you’re probably overestimating the amount you can accomplish. By undertaking new goals with deliberate slowness, you increase the chance you can achieve lasting success. Deliberate Slowness Deliberate slowness has lost its appeal. Although most people remember the old story about the slow and successful tortoise against the faster hare, slowness is viewed as a sin in today’s culture. Walk through any bookstore and you’ll see promises to lose weight, make money and be successful in less time than you ever imagined. Lose twenty pounds in one week. Double your income in a year. Change any bad habit instantly. Although these promises may sell more books, they undermine the power of deliberate slowness. What would happen if you made your goal to lose twenty pounds, not in one month, but in one year? First, your likelihood of success would increase dramatically.

Are you a true democrat? Take this test to find out

Election in Liberia A democrat respects each person’s right to freedom – freedom of thought, freedom of expression, freedom of association, freedom of movement etc.  That is why anyone who does not respect the rights of  others is not a democrat. Do you respect the rights of your husband? Do you respect the rights of your wife? Do you respect the rights of your children?   A father who does not respect the rights of his children, of course, is not a democrat.  Similarly, a teacher who does not respect the rights of his students is not a democrat. An employer who does not respect the rights of his employees is not a democrat. If they work so hard for him but he pays them very little and sometimes does not even pay them, he is not a democrat. The policeman, the soldier, even the prison warder who fails to respect the rights of fellow citizens cannot call himself a democrat.  That is why all those who violate the human rights of others, harass and squeeze money from others as brib

This is the only thing you need to make a difference in the world

Change starts with you Can you change the world? Can one person make a difference in the world?  Is it realistic for me to say that you can make the world an excellent place to live in? Yes. It is realistic. I say with confidence that one person can make a difference. One person can change the world. You can change the world. Individuals change the world everyday. Each action you take changes the world either for good or for bad. The fact that the change may not be visible does not mean that nothing has changed. By your little actions you change the world everyday. If you combine your individual action with similar individual actions of many others, a great impact on the world can be created.  Is it not said that little drops of water make a mighty ocean? Brick by brick a mansion is built. Grass by grass a bird builds its nest. A friend told me what happened once when she got into a taxi. The taxi driver started talking to them about the miracles that the lord has done in

Can't Sleep? Read This

Trust God with your problems and sleep well. How soundly do you sleep at night when you go to bed? Is it easy for you to sleep?  There are people who do not find it difficult to fall asleep.  They sleep with great ease.  When they put down their heads, it does not take them long to start snoring. Others are different. Sleep does not easily come to them.  In bed, they turn from side to side and sleep does not come. They look up at the ceiling and count the mosquitoes passing, but sleep does not come.  Then they begin to take one problem after another and examine. All types of good and bad ideas  pass through their minds. Many of us are like this.  We spend many sleepless nights for one reason or the other.  Business people spend sleepless nights calculating business.  They do not know whether things will work out well for them or not. People spend sleepless nights worrying about financial problems.  You may see someone moving on the street and think he is fine when he is d

Exercise Your Inner Strength

Exercise Your Inner Strength Learning to handle obstacles is the best way to exercise your inner strength and power, stand your ground, and succeed. The world presents you with various challenges so that you learn how to develop mental strength, grow more confident and become strong. To succeed in overcoming obstacles, you need to have the inner strength and power to stick through any adversity. You must have the mindset to believe more in yourself than in the obstacles, and have the willingness to do what it takes to turn the obstacles around. Take action and overcome them! Your personal success and personal failure, all start in the mind. Success in life is about managed thoughts, focused attention, and deliberate action. You need to eliminate negative beliefs that have been holding you back from reaching your goals, by tapping into the power of your unconscious mind. Your inner strength and power develops by overcoming inner resistance. How do you develop your inner strengt

The Importance of Forgiveness

Forgive and be free If you hold a grudge against anyone, the pent up stress can make you feel as if the weight of the world is on your shoulder. Such a feeling of emotional drain can be very unproductive and can completely consume you, thus it is better to forgive and let go. Forgiveness doesn’t mean that you should forget what hurt or angered you; instead you should be the higher person and show that nothing can keep you down. It takes you beyond the role of being a victim, and places you in the driver’s seat. You should not be a victim, instead, take control of the situation and expend your energy elsewhere.

Those Around You Are Direct Reflection of You

If you’re feeling stuck and struggling to make the progress you want, take a look around you. Most people adapt to whatever environment they find themselves. They have what psychologists call an “external locus of control,” where they believe factors outside of them dictate the direction of their lives. Who are the people closed to you? How did they become your peer group? Was it on purpose or based on convenience? Do these people hold you to a high standard? Or, do they hold you to an even lower standard than you hold yourself? If you want to improve and succeed in your life, you need to surround yourself with people who have higher standards than you do.  This isn’t true just in working relationships. What about your romantic partner? Do they hold you to a high standard? Do they help you become more than you currently are? Do you help them? Most people are a direct reflection of those around them. If the people around them have lower standards, they drop theirs’ as well. If th

Why Leaders Fail To Grow Themselves

Liberian leaders in action Far too many leaders (and people) fail to intentionally grow themselves. If you want to reach your leadership potential and continually move to new levels of success, then you need to always be growing and learning. When we know the common reasons why we fail to grow or improve ourselves then we can prevent or avoid the reason in advance. Through self-awareness, accountability, and being intentional about being a lifetime learner we safeguard against these reasons. 1. Pride  Pride is the greatest hindrance to growing yourself. John Maxwell wisely stated, “When you are full of pride on the inside, it makes you stiff, stubborn, and creates strife with others.” Pride prevents a person from growing or learning. Prideful leaders have a false sense of reality that causes them to think they are better than they really are, so they see no need to improve, because they believe they are perfect or are too noble to grow. Rid yourself of pride and allow growt

Lose Weight And Get Strong with this One Effective Exercise

Berenice Mulubah Trust me, this exercise is all you need. It is quick, simple and very effective. It's called the Farmer's Walk.   The farmer's walk is the simplest exercise you can do. Just pick up some heavy weights, walk as far as you can and repeat. That's right. The Farmer's walking is so easy. You don't even need weights. Fill a couple buckets with sand and go to town. No buckets? No problem. How about milk jugs? Water bottles? Paint cans? Don't have anything handy? Nothing at all? Come on now, you can find something heavy at home. (1) Take it outside - Yes, you can do this indoors going back and forth down the hall (I do it that way), but it's boring as hell. If you can, do your Farmer's Walk outside.  It's fun, refreshing, and easy to gauge your distance. And I guarantee you'll turn some heads. (2)  Keep it light - We're not trying to  "prove" a point here, we're trying to get fit. Reduce the weight you

The differences between Thanksgiving and Thanksliving

Thanksgiving or Thanksliving Thanksgiving has always been for me a time to be thankful for all the blessings in my life. But How Do We Live Thanksgiving ?  I found the answer to that question in an article written by Wilferd A. Peterson called, The Art of Thanksgiving. In this article he talks about acts of thanksliving. To quote from this piece, Mr Peterson writes: "The art of thanksgiving is thanksliving. It is gratitude in action. It is applying Albert Schweitzer's philosophy: 'In gratitude for your own good fortune you must render in return some sacrifice of your life for the other life." Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for all we have, but thanksliving is a way of life that if implemented could improve the quality of life not only for you and me, but for others. Do you live in a thanks giving way? There are thousands upon thousands of people worldwide that would gladly give up their life to trade with you for your life, a life full of op

Give Up Playing Small

Berenice Mulubah Sometimes, to become successful, we do not need to add more things, we need to give up on some of them.  Even though each one of us has a different definition of success, there are certain things that are universal, which, if you give up on them, you will be more successful. One of those things is "Give Up Playing Small".  "Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone, and as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others." Marianne Williamson If you never try and take great opportunities, or allow your dreams to become realities, you will never realize your true potential.  Moreover, the world will benefit from what you could have ac
